THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIFFERENT WEIGHING SCALES IN CARRYING OUT ACCURATE PRACTICALS IN SCIENCE LABORATORIES

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

  1. Background of the study

Laboratory balances encompass precise weighing instruments used to measure all kinds of samples in a laboratory environment.

Inscale offers a full selection of lab scales and chemical scales such as micro and analytical balances that can weigh very small increments, to larger top pan balances for larger sample sizes. Types of laboratory scales include precision balances, analytical balances, and moisture analysers.

Analytical balances are the most popular type of laboratory balance with high readabilities reaching 0.1mg and above. These balances can be used for numerous weighing applications including density determination, dynamic weighing and formulation. Ideal for weighing chemicals precisely in advanced science experiments or medical research.

Moisture analysers are used for accurately determining the moisture content in food or organic mass by employing the Loss-On-Drying (LOD) method. Adam Equipment’s PMB moisture analyser employs a halogen bulb to heat and dry samples in order to provide a pre-heated and heated weight value of the product.

Many laboratories weigh samples multiple times a day so it’s important to find a lab scale that can be accurate and provide constant weight readings. For questions or help finding the right balance for your application please contact us.
