DOMICILITY AND ITS IMPACTS ON UNDERGRADUATE PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING
Abstract:
This study explores the concept of domicility (living arrangements) and its impacts on the psychological well-being of undergraduate students. As students transition to higher education, their living environments—whether on-campus, off-campus, or at home—play a significant role in shaping their academic experiences and mental health. The research investigates how different domiciliary settings influence stress levels, social interactions, academic performance, and overall mental well-being among undergraduates. A mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews, was used to gather data from a diverse sample of students across multiple institutions. Results reveal that on-campus residents benefit from enhanced social integration and academic support but face challenges such as limited privacy. Off-campus living offers independence but can lead to isolation and financial strain, while students living at home report a mix of emotional support and constraints on autonomy. The findings underscore the importance of addressing the diverse psychological needs of students based on their living arrangements. Recommendations include creating supportive policies and interventions tailored to different domiciliary contexts to promote mental health and academic success.
