A STUDY OF SEVERITY AND CONTROL OF HEPATITIS B AMONG ADOLESCENTS (10-19 YEARS) IN SHOMOLU GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract:

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains a significant public health concern globally, and its impact on adolescents, particularly those aged 10-19 years, is of particular interest. This study focuses on assessing the severity of hepatitis B infections and the effectiveness of control measures among adolescents in the setting of Shomolu General Hospital, Nigeria.

Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, this research combines quantitative analysis of clinical data and laboratory results with qualitative insights from healthcare professionals and adolescents. The quantitative aspect involves the examination of medical records, assessing the prevalence, severity, and clinical outcomes of hepatitis B cases among adolescents. Laboratory analyses include viral load assessments and serological markers to understand disease progression and transmission dynamics.

Qualitative data collection involves interviews and focus group discussions with healthcare providers, adolescents, and caregivers. Insights gathered aim to elucidate factors influencing the severity of hepatitis B, such as awareness, vaccination coverage, and adherence to preventive measures. Additionally, the study explores the effectiveness of existing healthcare interventions, including vaccination programs and health education initiatives.

The outcomes of this research will contribute to a nuanced understanding of the severity and control of hepatitis B among adolescents in Shomolu General Hospital. Findings may inform targeted public health interventions, emphasizing vaccination campaigns, health education, and awareness programs tailored to the unique needs of this age group. Ultimately, the study seeks to contribute to the enhancement of preventive measures and healthcare strategies, fostering improved hepatitis B control and management among adolescents in the local healthcare context.
